The overall condition and operation of the vessel will be examined. The following aspects are covered in all surveys:

The following services are optional:

  • Vibration Analysis
Insurance Survey

This inspection is performed so that the insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in structural integrity and safety for its intended use. Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats. They will also want to know the vessel's fair market value.

Appraisal Inspection

This inspection is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the fair market value of the vessel. This is normally needed for financing, estate settlements, donations and legal cases.

  • Donation:
Conducted prior to gifting your vessel to a non-profit organization. This is often done for tax write-off benefits and is more of a appraisal for general value. When donating your vessel keep in mind that IRS requires the Surveyor sign a form they provide. Prior to have the inspection and valuation contact your local IRS office and get a form. Then you can have it available when your Surveyor arrives.

  • Estate Settlement:
Provided to establish a fair market value for a vessel and is generally required in cases of probate and where there is a divided interest.
Engine Surveys

Reno Panico has years of experience as well as factory and field training in the repair of gasoline and diesel engines. He uses the latest computer software and diagnostic equipment to determine the present condition and reliability of marine engines. Inspections can include:

  • Gasoline Engines
    • Mechanical or electronic (voltage drop test) compression test
    • Leak down test to identify issues with engine valves or pistons rings, engine blow by, crankcase pressure
    • Mechanically check fuel and oil pressure, transmission oil pressure and raw water pressure
    • Alternator output and starter motors electrical draw
    • Utilize the latest software to scan Fuel Injected engines
  • Diesel Engines
    • Injector removal to check compression
    • Turbo boost PSI test
    • Fuel pressure test
    • Exhaust back pressure test
    • Raw water pressure test
    • Engine and transmission oil pressure test
    • Crankcase pressure and engine blow by test
    • Alternator output and starter motors electrical draw
    • Bore scope inspection on internal components, turbo chargers, cylinders and valves etc.
Damage Inspection

This survey can be performed for an insurance company or for an owner. It is performed to assess the extent of damage, recommend repairs, estimate repair cost, and if requested, possible cause. Make sure you have a reliable expert opinion before you settle on any insurance claim.

Infrared Thermography

Reno is a level one thermographer (from Flir Systems) and uses his infrared camera to assist in many types of surveys from finding water intrusion in hulls to hot spots in propulsion systems.
